In January 2019, Nike launched the Future Varsity program, which provides leadership training to 14 young African Americans who are creating positive change in their communities. These young leaders are paired with mentors from inside and outside Nike to help advance their causes: from organizing charity basketball tournaments in Chicago to providing nutrition education to youth in New York City.
We’re proud of the work we’ve done to shape a global team of talented, passionate and committed leaders. However, in terms of representing a true cross-section of our global community at a leadership level, we have improvements to make. We’re taking immediate action to ensure a workplace where everyone’s voice is heard and where all people feel included. Not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because we believe the team that is diverse and inclusive is the winning team.
Sport has the power to transcend any field or court, inspiring people to take action in their communities. Nike is working with world-class partners dedicated to expanding opportunities for young people and advancing equality in communities. MENTOR, PeacePlayers International and Girls, Inc. are just three of the organizations Nike is supporting to expand their reach, giving more opportunities to be active, linking more communities through sport and fostering mentoring relationships in the lives of young people.
At Nike, diversity is about acknowledging and valuing our differences and appreciating that everyone brings unique experiences, perspectives and ideas to the team. We believe everyone is diverse and representation matters and we want everyone who joins our team to realize their full potential. To reflect the diversity of our consumer, we are focused on increasing the number of women and underrepresented minorities in our leadership, while also looking at representation across all dimensions of diversity long-term.
Our company was founded on the belief that if you have a body, you are an athlete*. From the Nike FlyEase to the Pro Hijab, we’re addressing barriers athlete*s face to participate in sport and achieve their potential.
