We’re proud of the work we’ve done to shape a global team of talented, passionate and committed leaders. However, in terms of representing a true cross-section of our global community at a leadership level, we have improvements to make. We’re taking immediate action to ensure a workplace where everyone’s voice is heard and where all people feel included. Not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because we believe the team that is diverse and inclusive is the winning team.
Adam Gemili, like many other kids, just wanted to fit in. He even tried to change the color of his hair to look more like the other kids. Through sport he gained confidence. He believes everyone deserves an equal chance to succeed and to believe anything’s possible. No matter who they are or where they’re from.
At Nike, diversity is about acknowledging and valuing our differences and appreciating that everyone brings unique experiences, perspectives and ideas to the team. We believe everyone is diverse and representation matters and we want everyone who joins our team to realize their full potential. To reflect the diversity of our consumer, we are focused on increasing the number of women and underrepresented minorities in our leadership, while also looking at representation across all dimensions of diversity long-term.
Nike believes in the power of sport to move the world forward. We strive to break down barriers, bring people together, and inspire action.
Sport has the ability to transcend any field or court. The EQUALITY initiative is centered on using the power of sport to inspire people to take action in their communities, with Nike leading by example with its partnership with world-class organization dedicated to advancing this work. In 2017, as part of the launch of EQUALITY, we announced partnerships with MENTOR and PeacePlayers, and in 2018, we announced a new partnership with Girls, Inc. EQUALITY encourages athletes* to take themes of sport, like fairness and respect, off the field and offers opportunities for them to get involved in their communities.
Our company was founded on the belief that if you have a body, you are an athlete*. From the Nike FlyEase to the Pro Hijab, we’re addressing barriers athlete*s face to participate in sport and achieve their potential.
Our 2020 employee target is to attract and develop an increasingly diverse, engaged and healthy workforce.
